OF COURSE, IT SHOULD BE CLEAR THAT ADDING OF THE DRY WOODEN CHIPS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES THE FIRE DANGER FOR THE COVERED AREAS. BUT, DESPITE THE LOGIC, BARK IS SPREAD EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING IN THE PUBLIC AREAS WHERE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PROHIBIT SMOKING IN ACTUALITY, WITH NO WAY TO ENFORCE THE BAN WITH CONSTANT HUMAN SUPERVISION....
BUT IT IS PARTICULARLY ABSURD WHEN SUCH MAN MADE FIRE HAZARD IS CREATED RIGHT AT THE MEMORY SITE FOR THE LARGE SCALE FIRE THAT HAD WIPED OUT MANY RESIDENCIES, ALONG WITH THE LOSS OF HUMAN LIVES, AND INCREASING RISK TO THE FIREFIGHTERS.
YES, INDEED, THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN AT THE SITE OF INFAMOUS OAKLAND HILLS FIRE IN 1991. AND IF IT WOULD NOT BE SO HORRIBLY ENDANGERING, IT IS MORE THAN LAUGHABLE, AS WITH ANY BLIND SPOT

NO, THERE SHOULD BE NO EXCUSES OF BUDGET DEFICIT, IN ORDER TO SHIFT THE FUNDS IN ORDER TO RESTORE THE ESSENCE OF NATURAL HABITAT, FOR THE REASON OF ASSURING THAT HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE POPULATION IS MADE THE TOP PRIORITY.

In the cities with many home owners associations, such as San Ramon, Dublin, etc. large areas are covered with toxic bark-like ground cover. Citizens have to speak up against such outrage of the environmental insanity and STOP ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMINALS from intoxicating population, while making an impression of providing good value for the absurdly enormous fees. Investigations and audits will reveal that the cost of saving on man hours for pulling the weeds is not comparable with the litigation and oiabioity pay offs.

EVEN IF THE USED BARK WAS MADE OF THE NATURAL PINE WOOD, MOST OFTEN THE WOOD TYPE IS THE COMPLETE MISMATCH WITH THE SURROUNDING ECOSYSTEM (UNLESS THERE IS PINE DOMINANCE?), AND ITS INTRUSION DISRUPTS ALL ELEMENTS OF THE NATURAL HABITAT ! PINE BARK BELONGS TO THE PINE-DOMINATED FORREST, NOT EVERYWHERE WHERE IT MAY BE SOLD AND BOUGHT AT THE LOCAL NURSERIES. MUNICIPAL AGENCIES SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES TO SUCH DRASTIC ALTERATIONS THAT MUST BE DENOUNCED AS THE HOSTILE MATTER FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT.
THIS PRACTICE HAS BECOME MOST COMMON, BUT THE DANGER OF SUCH RECKLESSLY INAPPROPRIATE APPLICATION IS YET TO BE FULLY APPRAISED, IN TERMS OF THE VARIOUS NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON VARIOUS PARTS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT, AND ON OUR PLANETARY HOME, AS A WHOLE.

This highly flammable dry wooden bark is generously spread across from the Memorial for the Oakland fire‘1991 victims. No, likely in the group of people there were none with physical affliction of blindness. But,mit would be curious to find out.

Q. There has been a lot of controversy about the use of colored wood chip mulches in landscapes. What is the problem with these mulches? Are the dyes used in coloring the wood chips safe?
A. The primary concern with colored landscape mulches is not the dyes used for coloring. Rather, it is about the sources of wood chips and the possibility of contamination with toxic substances.
Most of the wood used for making colored mulch comes from recycled wood, i.e. wood scraps, wood pallets, and wood reclaimed from construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Besides the benefits of recycling waste wood materials, the reason why these wood materials are used for colored mulches is that they are very dry and readily absorb or adsorb coloring agents. With their high moisture content, fresh wood chips do not easily absorb or adsorb the dyes commonly used for coloring. Also, mulch produced from recycled wood is not viewed as attractive as other mulches such as pine bark. This is the most compelling reason for coloring the recycled-wood mulch.
Nevertheless, it has been found that some of the recycled waste wood used for making landscape mulch products is contaminated with various chemicals, such as creosote and CCA (chromated copper arsenate). CCA, of course, is the chemical that was used in the manufacture of pressure-treated wood. With bans on arsenic-based wood preservatives in recent years, this may become less of a problem, though there is still plenty of CCA preserved wood to be found in older decks and fences. Sometimes wood pallets that have been used in the transport of chemical agents can become contaminated by spills of these chemicals. The bottom line is that CCA and other toxic chemicals have been found to be contaminating soil where colored wood chip mulch has been applied. The most egregious source of the contamination appears to CCA treated wood recycled from C&D waste.
The dyes used in coloring wood mulch are primarily of two types: carbon-based dyes and iron oxide based dyes. Iron oxide, the most commonly used dye, is simply a compound of iron and oxygen. As the compound oxidizes, iron is released to the soil but is not considered to be toxic. Iron oxide dyes are often used in the floriculture industry to dye flowers. Dyes that are not absorbed by or adsorbed to the wood would come off with contact, especially if the mulch is wet. There are some carbon-based dyes used on mulch. These carbon-based colorants are similar to those used in ink and cosmetics. At this time, there is no evidence that the dyes used to color wood chip mulch are toxic.
It should not be assumed that all colored mulches are contaminated. However, anyone planning to use colored mulch should become familiar with the supplier and the source of the wood used in making it. If C&D waste wood is used, it should be a red flag that there is a possibility of CCA contaminated mulch.
UMass does not have a lab that tests for possible contaminants in bark mulch. If you still have concerns after contacting the supplier about the source of the wood used, contact a private environmental testing lab in your area. These can be found online or in the Yellow Pages under Laboratories.

SAY NO 2 CHLORINE - DEADLY LUNGS HAZARD FOR COVID19 CARRIERS
The choice of logic over institutionalized, cruel and profitable convention
When we go out of our ways to protect and to sustain life during Covid19 pandemic, we must recall the critical info: LUNGS is the organ that is known to be seriously damaged THE MOST by Covid19, novel Corona Virus, at times to the irreparable condition, leading to MANY DEATHS. At the same time, chlorine is notoriously known for its SERIOUS DAMAGE TO LUNGS and respiratory system. And its volatile nature easily disrupts OUR IMMUNE DEFENSE, due to the high impact on endocrine system.
So, why is it STILL so widely used in the most critical parts of our medical system and food serving outlets, and even STILL MANDATED?!
THE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT SOAP IS VERY EFFECTIVE IN BREAKING THE FAT CAPSULE OF COVID19. This is only one of many examples in public domain:
No, chlorine isn’t necessary for this critical for sanitation task, but “just soap” alone,
and with no chlorine will be quite effective in disarming the virus (note, UNSCENTED SOAP should be the goal to find in public settings though). But, despite any logic, chlorine is being used everywhere, in sanitizing wipes, sprays, soap solutions, detergents, dish soap etc. including our drinking and tap water, and it is believed by many people to be “very useful, helpful and ...safe”, while posing deadly threat to them and their loved ones.
The use of the so called “low” dose of so called “safe” amount of chlorine (that is prohibited by the International Conventions agent of chemical weaponry) is based on the research. But, THE ISSUE OF CUMULATIVE EFFECTS is rarely present among the research criteria (if ever). And such issues as the impact on already existing undermining health factors, such as Corona Virus etc. are never in the scope of the researchers who are often funded by the very producers of the chemical that may lead to the impacts for THE GENERATIONS TO COME, ever critical to remember for those of childbearing age, due to the disruption of endocrine system. And, to use wide population as the subjects for the unannounced experiment isn’t humane and is most unethical.
According to the research, SOAP is very effective in breaking the protective FAT capsule of Corona Virus, Covid19. So, CHLORINE, known to be very harmful for even healthy lungs isn’t necessary, but DANGEROUS, not merely neutral when it comes to the people with compromised lungs and other respiratory conditions, who may experience lungs shut down.
So, why the presence of chlorine, especially in the medical settings snd food service outlets, is so common?.. Why is it MANDATED no less?
The reasons are the result of compound blind spot of thr human mind, and incoude being $$$ profitable and being institutionalized, based on the irrational sense of fear and thus, is harder to irradiate, despite the most obvious dangerous nature of it.
And yet, it is A MUST TO IRRADICATE for the sake of saving human lives., especially during Corona Virus epidemic this horrible hazard endangers everyone with potentially lethal outcome, since anyone may potentially become the carrier of Covid19, with or without symptoms.
Chlorine may easily make a healthy person much more susceptible to the deadly Covid19 as well, due to the power to disrupt IMMUNE SYSTEM FUNCTION, that depends on the fine balance of hormones and neurotransmitters that run many processes in the human bodies.
But, what about “safe allowances” that are used as the standards for most of our drinking and tap water? What about sanitizing from deadly bacteria that is a public health issue? Well, it does not have to be “the only” solution to the problem, since there are safer solutions that are not hazardous for people, while being bio identica, due to their plant origins, and due to safety for humans.
The so called “safe” allowances for “low” concentration of known to be very hazardous chlorine do NOT encounter the issue of CUMULATIVE EFFECT. Such dangerous oversimplification results from the lacking capacity for higher cognitive function of abstract thought that provides polyphonic mindset along with symphonic perspective on the priorities in our complex world.
For people who may have compromised lungs (including due to Corona Virus) even minor exposure to such powerful irritant may cause instant lungs shut down.
International Convention on Chemical Weapons bans CHLORINE as one of THE MOST PAINFUL AND DANGEROUS AGENTS OF CHEMICAL WEAPONRY. Everything should be done to prevent chlorine to be used as the weapon of the ”limited” warfare with the purpose of large profit at the unspeakable sacrifice of human health and life.
If we, as the society, make the goal to avoid this serious hazard, n every instance of chlorine use there would be a healthy substitution found instead. Indeed, for the millennia, our ancestors managed to survive without this very recently derived chemical with high volatility and very dangerous impact on human health and safety. Despite the widespread and the $$$ power if the chlorine’s producers, it is still UP TO US TO ALLOW FIR IT TO BE TESTED ON US. CURRENTLY, IT IS BEING TESTED ON THE POPULATION WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION, THUS ILLEGALLY.
When fhe lives of many people are at stake, are we aware of the need to practice almost heroic power to insist on logic, in order to stand up to the destructive counter power of widespread convention that promotes preventable ...deaths.
